  Introduction

The prologue is a first person story told from a point of view that comes up later in the story, so keep that in mind. It was originally published as the short DIVINE DISARRAY, so you might find it familiar. If you have already read that short, feel free to skip directly to Chapter 1.

If you aren’t familiar with this genre, be prepared for adult situations with lots of details, along with leveling up and skill advancement. This is a harem gambit book, and we don’t want there to be any confusion about that.

Prologue: The Angel Who Would be a God

Without free will, we angels don’t have fantasies about such things as taking a mortal woman from behind and bending her over as you slide in. We don’t have daydreams about taking a female angel right there on the cloudlike ground and spreading her legs, diving in face-first. In theory, we aren’t supposed to want to press our lips to their necks, to breathe in their sweet, heavenly scent.

By God, we don’t even think about not having such thoughts and dreams. Which is why it was especially odd that my day had so far been full of nothing but that.

Oh, and erections? Yeah, we weren’t supposed to get those, either. Of course, we have penises and vaginas. That whole idea of angels looking like those plastic dolls down there is simply ridiculous. But to think of using it for… that? Unheard of.

That day when the rift opened, when a wave of light hit and suddenly everything was… broken? Well, that day changed it all.

I’d been standing in formation with the other angels, as we did every day for inspection. A daily check to ensure we were ready for the next siege of the spirit realm by the demonic forces, when the flash of light caught my eye. I wasn’t the only one, I had realized when their heads shifted. Angels in formation never shifted heads. But before anyone could really process it, the light was gone. Had it been turquoise? Violet? Gray? Nobody knew. It was a light, it was gone.

Nobody said a thing, simply returning to proper formation. Except that my eyes took in the curve of the skin at the edge of Naratha’s neck, wondering what she tasted like, then trailed down her white and gold silk-like robes to the shapely form of her ass. Holy fuck, it bothered me that I’d never noticed that ass before. Then again… no free will. My tongue ran across my lips, my mind wondering what it would feel like for those thick ass cheeks to slam against my hips, how her tight pussy would feel as I slid inside.

I wasn’t the only one to suddenly break formation, although I wondered if I was the only one to do so because of the massive erection forming beneath my loincloth. If you could call it a loincloth—we wore cloth wrapped around our waists and between our legs, a longer flap with gold lining falling over the front and back. As I walked, bent over and trying to hide my bulge, others were looking at me—some of them female angels, women who had lust in their eyes.

Lust! In the eyes of angels… The thought disgusted me, and totally turned me on.

That was the night the dreams had first come. That night, I’d awakened more than once with a boner that threatened to explode all my heavenly essence if not dealt with. And for the first time, I’d reached down there and gripped that beast, shaking it and stroking like it was all that mattered in the heavens. I don’t know if it was just that it was the first boner I’d ever had or whether I was genuinely blessed, but my God, it was huge.

This serpent, this tool of temptation, begging for release.

Of course, angels sleep in the barracks, ready for war at a trumpets’ call notice. I turned and saw Naratha staring at me with wide eyes. I realized that I hadn’t bothered to leave my cloud bed, there among the rows of others.

It only took a second longer to see the shape of her sheets, bunched up, her hand clearly between her legs. For a moment, we both looked like children caught with their hands in the cookie jar, and we both seemed to think the other would do something horrible about it. Instead, we continued to go for the cookies. Her hand moved. My hand moved.

The best part was when she, ever so nonchalantly, moved back part of her sheet so that I could see her hand, and flesh. Sweet, golden flesh, glowing slightly.

She raised an eyebrow, and when I didn’t get the hint, she nodded, licking her lips.

Oh, by God, she wanted to see mine. I took a deep breath, raised my head slightly to ensure others weren’t watching, and then froze. Not only were others not watching, but in the corner a man had his head buried in a woman’s crotch. It was hard to tell in the shadows, but this certainly didn’t seem to be the only such act occurring in that room.

Well then, why not? I maneuvered my hips, angling myself toward Naratha so that only she’d be able to see, and then lifted the sheet out of the way so that she could see my massive erection, my hand moving along it as she watched.

Her eyes went wide. Her hand froze for a moment, then started working faster, furious, not trying to hide it anymore.

  I did the same.

Suddenly she was up, pulling her sheet with her and staying low as if that would help nobody see, and was in my bed.

“What’re you doing?” I whispered, aghast.

“Shut up,” she said, taking my hand and putting it between her legs.

Moist, wet, vaginal lips. The skin was so smooth, her pussy so ready for me. My fingers found their way, only one fitting inside, but then she guided me away from the opening and to what I only knew through reputation as her clit.

Again, she guided me, and when she was just starting to bite her lip, to bury her face in the pillow to keep from crying out, a scream sounded from a hallway of the barracks. Others got up, moving to see what it was, but I pulled her close, going faster, faster, and as the scream from the other room grew louder, Naratha’s scream was soft but intense, her body shaking. It was followed by a whimper. I pulled my hand away, realizing it was drenched.

“A murder!” someone shouted, which didn’t make sense, and seemed so distant. All I could think was how fucking hot Naratha was, and how badly I wanted her to grab my cock, to take it in her mouth, her pussy… anywhere, really.

“Leon, come, quick,” a voice said, and I turned to see my fighting comrade Djorn motioning for me a few paces away. He froze, mid-motion, when he saw Naratha look up. His mouth moved without
words, and he stumbled back in confusion.

She sat up, hand to her mouth as she mumbled, “What have we done?”

Taking her hand and wanting to guide it to my cock, all I could think was, Not enough, yet.

But then she was out of bed, going toward her own, then turning, confused, and staring at my now totally exposed cock. She held her breath, looked at it longingly, and then shook her head.

“I’m sorry,” she said, then took off in the other direction from the crowd.

I had no idea what to do, here. Part of me wanted to go after her, but I also thought I should see what they were talking about. Murder? Could they mean demons had infiltrated the heavens?

Before I could move one way or the other, crippling pain took hold of me. First in the lower abdomen, then it was like my balls were growing too large, pain shooting through them in a dull, horrible fashion.

I later came to learn that was my first experience with blue balls, but at the time all I could assume was that someone had placed a curse on me.

“Demons,” I mumbled, unable to get the word out at first, then lay back, clutching the bed, and shouted louder, “DEMONS!”

Two more angels were at my side, one male and one female. The female clasped a hand over her mouth, the male’s face scrunched up.

“My God, Leon,” he said. “What is that thing?”

“It’s swollen, and so… monstrous,” the woman added.

“A curse,” I replied. “Something’s wrong, very wrong.”

The woman moved quick, going for the weapons stash and pulling a long, golden sword into her hand. “We’ll cut it off,” she declared as she stormed back toward me. “It’s the only way.”

“No!” I protested, suddenly up and backing away, covering my crotch.

The man, who I now saw to be Treyal, a loyal fighter under my command, stepped into her path, hand up. “That won’t do.”

“But you saw it!” she protested, eyes wide with fear.

He nodded, and glanced back. “I saw, and I see that it’s going away.”

His eyes met mine, and I nodded thanks.

“You three,” a voice said, and I turned to see the golden glow around the head of a general. “Haven’t you heard? There’s been a murder.”

“Y—yes,” I stammered, pulling my loincloth into place. “Where’s the invasion? How many?”

The general frowned, stepping in to where we could better see him. “No, you don’t understand. An angel has murdered another angel. General Valkor is dead.”

“I’ll be right there.” I moved to follow him, only, as two other angels moved in to have a word with him, I changed course. The distraction was my chance to get out of there. None of this felt right anymore—nothing about this place was home. It was the prison that had kept me and my free will at bay for centuries. Millennia?

Making my way outside, I found the edge of the clouds that led to the spirit world and the plains below.

I spread my wings, preparing to make the jump.

Many were heeding the call of their generals, staying put and awaiting further instructions. But not me. The opening of the rift, or the ‘shifting’ as some later took to calling it, had occurred and made one thing very clear—free will was a bitch, and I could never look my fellow angels in the eyes after what had happened the night before.

It was as if my whole life I’d wanted free will, but had never known it. My whole life… which had been what? Centuries? Millenia? As far back as I could remember, I’d served as a royal guard in the Angelic Host, but now everything had changed. Like a great earthquake that had shifted the realities of heaven and hell.

And to make it worse, I not only knew I had free will, but knew that I craved a woman, badly. More than anything, more than wanting to defend the heavens. It was horrible, and for that thought alone I was ready to make my fall, to become one of the Fallen, as they termed deserters.

And so, I looked down from the clouds at the worlds below, contemplating, wondering what was out there.

It would be a long fall, but one I’d set my mind to.

“Leon, no…” The voice of Naratha was soft, loving, peaceful. And yet… most unwelcome at that moment. Seeing her there in all her glory made this decision incredibly more complicated. Her golden hair was pulled back and tied but falling around her shoulders. She was more than an angel to me, the epitome of everything that was holy. Her perfectly white wings folded behind her and matched the white in the color of her robes that clung to her like silk, although it was truly made of woven clouds.

But all I could think about was the look of horror, the way she’d run away and left me alone, exposed. Unsatisfied.

No, that wasn’t why, I told myself. But deep down, I knew it was playing a large part in my decision.

“I won’t remain one of their slaves.”

“Slaves?” Her gaze held a pity I almost couldn’t handle. “Dear, sweet Leon…” She stepped closer to me, and for the first time in my life, my appreciation of her was something more than observational. I’d always appreciated her like a piece of art, or as one would when seeing the most wonderous natural beauty. Every time I’d looked at her it was like seeing the sunrise for the first time.

But now, as the cloth rippled over her breasts, revealing the curves, pointing out slightly at the nipples, I felt a surge of movement in my groin. She must have sensed it, or something, because she froze mid-step, eyes on me with confusion.

It was certainly an odd moment, since before that day, we’d technically been asexual beings. Angels that, while easily identified as male and female by our genitals, had no real need for them.

Standing there in what was essentially a loincloth, there was no doubt that my cock remembered everything.

“Everything is changing so fast,” Naratha said, averting her gaze. “I… I know it’s not what we’re used to, but we must continue to follow orders. To wait it out. You’ll see, soon it will all be as it was.”

“Will it?” I asked, mind spinning as my blood moved south.

Her eyes moved to my bulge, her tongue touching her lips. One of her hands moved along her dress, caressing her breasts. The other reached out for me, as if to grab my bulge and take me. But she froze, quickly regaining herself and folding her hands in front of her. “Put that abomination away.”

I tried to, but only out of respect for her. There was no hiding it, though, not truthfully, as my loincloth merely acted as a tent.

“You can’t stop me,” I said, trying to keep my focus on the subject at hand. The dizziness in my head told me I now understood mankind and their constant focus on sexual desire. Diverting one’s mindpower anywhere but down there was a task worthy of a god.

She breathed deep, glanced over her shoulder, and then took two steps so that she was pressed up against me, my manhood—as that’s what it was—feeling for the first time the warmth of an angelic woman’s body against it.

“I won’t let you,” she told me, and then took my face as she pressed her lips to mine. A gentle flicker of her tongue, her warmth flowing through both of us like a sunny day.

But I pulled back, hand on her waist. “My mind’s made up on the matter.”

“No,” she said, and turned. I couldn’t believe it, but it was clear she meant to sound the alarm. To betray me!

It was now or never, so I turned back, wings spread to make the leap. A line of smoke gave me pause. Black, mixed with red, moving with purpose. Such smoke wasn’t an uncommon sight… at least, not in the spirit realm, not when demons were en route to a battle. But here, in the heavens? Never!

My legs nearly buckled as I was caught between the urge to leave this all behind and the sudden realization that the impossible was happening, that the demons were attacking the heavens.

The smoke gave way to dark shapes and then they exploded out, forms of darkness, red fire, bursts of purple and black. Demons, pouring out into the streets of the heavens, their swords and magic taking out the first unsuspecting an
gels in their path.

“No…” Naratha said, and I turned to see she hadn’t gone far. She met my gaze and I nodded, turning to charge into the fight.

Maybe I didn’t belong here, but that didn’t mean I was about to abandon the place to the likes of these demons. I charged forward, hand toward the golden light so that I could pull my sword. My blade appeared in my hand, ready as I leaped into the air, flapped my wings, and met the first of the demons in battle.

I was no slouch in a fight. Having led my angelic troops into battle hundreds of times over hundreds of years, slaying demons came as second nature. At one moment I’d be cracking open a red or purple skull with the hilt of my sword or a fist, the next slicing two open at once. In a whirlwind of gold light I was there, sending out blades as my strikes incinerated my enemy. Other angels were nearby, tearing the demons apart, but plenty of angels fell, too. In part, this was our home turf, where we were strongest. But also, the demons had caught us unawares.

A particularly creepy demon in a long, purple cloak came at me, colors of black and red shifting in the cloak as it got closer—in a way I’d never seen before. It caused me to pause, which was a mistake in a battle such as this. Three demonic hands appeared from shadows, others closing in on me. My fist went to the sky and golden light flashed out in all directions, removing the hands. But the distraction was all the demon needed to close the gap, to get its hands on me.

My insides tore at his touch, my skin burning, feeling like it was disintegrating and falling off at the same time, like soon I’d be nothing but the pure, heavenly light of my insides. A scream sounded, meaning another angel had likely died nearby. I couldn’t go down like this, not so soon after receiving my freedom.
